Mobile medical van to offer screenings

Upper Chesapeake HealthLink's Medical Mobile Van will be in the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's parking lot M, MacPhail and Tollgate roads, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Free blood pressure, sleep disorder and body fat analysis screenings will be offered.

Also available are cholesterol screenings, $10; osteoporosis screenings, $15; and cardiac risk assessments, $20 (cash or check only).

Osteoporosis screenings require a scan of the bare foot.

Six-week course looks at childbirth

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a six-week Prepared Childbirth Course from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, March 12 to April 23, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Weekend classes will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 8 and 9.

The cost is $50 for couples delivering at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and $80 for those delivering elsewhere.

Quest Fitness plans open house

Quest Fitness will hold an open house from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 5 in the Constant Friendship Shopping Center in Abingdon.

Visitors can get a brief overview of The Arc and Recreation Support Services and take a tour of the facility.

Guests can also work out using strength and cardiovascular exercise equipment.

Quest will also offer information on memberships.

The event is part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, which includes a national campaign to educate people about developmental disabilities.

Free mammograms, gynecological exams

The Harford County Health Department's Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program is sponsoring free mammograms and gynecological exams for women who meet program guidelines.

Women age 40 to 64 who have limited income and little or no health insurance may be eligible.

Wellness center offers free screenings

Upper Chesapeake HealthLink's Community Wellness Center offers free, walk-in blood pressure, sleep disorder and body composition screenings from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday.

Also available are cholesterol screenings for $10, osteoporosis screenings for $15 and full cardiac risk assessments for $20 (cash or check only).

Osteoporosis screenings require a scan of the bare foot; dress so that socks or stockings can be easily removed.

The center recently moved to 2027 Pulaski Highway in the Swan Creek Village Center, Suite 206, Havre de Grace.

Hospital laboratory obtains accreditation

The Harford Memorial Hospital Respiratory Care Blood Gas Laboratory has received accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists, based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.

During the accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality-control procedures for the preceding two years. Lab equipment, staff qualifications, safety and overall management of the laboratory are examined.
