The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks Spring Program Guide is now available.
The guide, released last week at www.aacounty.org/recparks, provides information on athletic, recreation and therapeutic activities offered by Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks. Programs are offered for all ages and include trips to New York to see Broadway shows, adult basketball and volleyball leagues, swimming, computer classes and more.
Registration will be available online and at the county offices. Classes fill up quickly, so early registration is requested. Fees vary by program.
Raffle features quilt on historic homes
Organizers of Linthicum's centennial celebration are selling raffle tickets for a handmade photographic quilt featuring 20 photos of Linthicum historic homes, churches and landmarks.
The 6-by-6 foot quilt, made and donated by Irma H. and Franklin M. Eastland, includes photos of historic Holly Run Chapel, the Turkey Hill and Twin Oaks homes, and Chuck's Drive-in.
The quilt is on display this month at the Linthicum Library and will also be displayed at various venues afterward. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winner will be drawn at the Centennial Gala in November. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Veterans Memorial.

Streetlights planned for Pumphrey
Anne Arundel County is installing streetlights in Pumphrey as part of an initiative started last fall by County Executive John R. Leopold intended to improve safety in several communities.
Leopold and BGE officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday on School Lane behind the Lloyd Keaser Center, one of the areas that the county police department said would benefit from increased security lighting.
Leopold budgeted $300,000 for street lighting this fiscal year, and since October, BGE has worked with the county to install about 220 new fixtures and upgrade roughly 30 fixtures in several communities.
Berlin Avenue in Pumphrey recently got three new lights and eight upgrades, while School Lane is scheduled to get three new lights and two upgrades.
