Eden Mill plans events for all ages

Eden Mill Nature Center is offering recreation programs for all ages at 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville.

Project WILD: This free interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program emphasizing wildlife will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for adults. The program is designed for educators, scout group leaders, home school teachers and any other youth group leaders who want to learn about wildlife and the environment. Workshop participants are provided with two guides: Basic WILD and Aquatic WILD, free of charge.

"Nature Tots -- Winter Blooms:" for ages 3 to 5 with an adult, at 10 a.m. March 8. Children will learn about early spring blooming flowers. Cost is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers.

Introduction to GPS: for adults from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 15. This course will focus more on recreational applications -- hiking, fishing and geocaching. Basic functions will be covered, with creating and locating waypoints. GPS units will be provided. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for nonmembers.

Piedmont course on beekeeping

The Piedmont Learning Center at Eden Mill Nature Center will offer a Bee Keepers Course for ages 14 to adult from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 6, 13, 20 and 27, and April 3 and 10 at 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville.

Cybil Preston will teach the art of beekeeping from start to finish, including establishing a hive, disease and mite management, and maintaining a chemically reduced or chemical-free environment for bees.

The course is geared to beginning beekeepers, but experienced beekeepers seeking current information are welcome.

The cost is $70 and includes books. Registration is required by calling 410-836-3050.

Boosters host fashion show

The John Carroll School Boosters Club will hold its first Spring Fashion Show on March 9 at the school, 703 Churchville Road, Bel Air.

Doors open at 1 p.m. for boutique shopping, followed by a gourmet luncheon and the fashion show. A pick-a-prize auction, raffles and prize giveaways will also be featured.

The show will preview new spring fashions, including casual, formal and prom wear from Talbots, Tiger Lily, Pink Silhouette, Two Sisters, Utopia, Francesca's Bridal Salon, South Moon Under, Pizazz, MW Tux and others.

Flowers will be by Linda Montuori and hair and make-up by Faces By Teri.

Vendor space for boutique shopping, ads for the program book and pick-a-prize auction items are being accepted.

Advance tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for students, or $35 at the door.

Freedom Hills gala for facility opening

Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program will open its new facility and indoor ring at Port Deposit with a gala dinner and fundraiser featuring live and silent auctions on March 15.

Items for bid include Extreme Makeover collectibles, artwork, horse supplies, trips, vacations, restaurant and cultural event certificates, antiques, gift baskets, spa packages and jewelry.

Tickets are $100 for the dinner and auction and must be purchased by Wednesday.
