Anne Arundel County police are investigating robberies at two Glen Burnie pharmacies to determine whether they are related, after an off-duty Baltimore officer helped arrest a suspect in the latest holdup, according to authorities.
The first robbery occurred Thursday around noon when police said a man wearing a ski mask displayed a silver handgun and stole medications from a Rite Aid in the 7500 block of Ritchie Highway. About 8 p.m. the same night, police said a masked man pointed a BB-gun rifle at a clerk in Walgreens in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway.
Police said the man in the latest holdup demanded methadone, a drug typically used for pain management and treatment for heroin addiction.
As the man was leaving, an off-duty city police officer identified himself and ordered him to drop the rifle, police said. The man complied and was arrested.
Anne Arundel police identified the suspect as John K. Greenwell Jr., 50, of the unit block of Tomcat Lane in Glen Burnie. He was charged with armed robbery and related offenses, police said.
