BOYS BASKETBALL
Marriotts Ridge @ Long Reach Today, 5:30 p.m.
Outlook: Which two teams will make it to next week's championship game? It's still anybody's guess with four teams - Marriotts Ridge, Long Reach, Atholton and Howard - all going into the season's final day with two league losses. Marriotts Ridge can clinch a spot with a win tonight, while Long Reach needs to win to stay in the hunt. Atholton, which goes into the day in first place based on tiebreakers, hosts Hammond, and Howard takes on visiting River Hill. The Lightning (18-2, 14-2) has won seven straight league games since its lopsided home loss against Atholton on Jan. 23. Senior forward Obi Ukwuoma has consistently taken over games with his ability to score and rebound. Perimeter shooting from senior Kevin Seker and freshman Nick Doolin will play a big role in the team's success against athletic Long Reach. The Lightning has the edge with more experience and the home court.
SUN'S PICK: Long Reach
GIRLS BASKETBALL
No. 15 Oakland Mills @ No. 4 Mount Hebron Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: The host Vikings took a 20-0 record into yesterday's game against Wilde Lake and have already wrapped up the home-court advantage for Tuesday's county championship game. The visiting Scorpions, who went into the week one game behind Atholton for second place with a 12-3 county mark, may still have a chance at the other invitation to the title game with a win. In their first meeting in December, Mount Hebron won, 45-37. A collective effort at both ends has been the key to the Vikings' success all season, while the Scorpions look to senior G Miriam McKenzie, who last week became the prograsm's all-time leading scorer. The opportunity of a perfect season in front of the home crowd gives the Vikings the edge.
