Betty Lee Seiland, 79

Betty Lee Seiland, a retired social worker active in her college's alumni association, died of cancer Feb. 12 at her Sykesville home. She was 79.

Born Betty Lee Robbins in Baltimore and raised on Linnard Street, she was a 1946 Western High School graduate and earned a degree at Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College. She later headed its Baltimore alumni association chapter and was a visitor of the school's alumni association board. She was the 1971 recipient of the Western Maryland College Alumni Meritorious Service Award.

She worked from 1950 to 1956 as a social worker in Baltimore and in Hanover County, Va.

She served on the boards of the Baltimore County General Hospital Auxiliary, where she was a fundraiser, and was a member of the Women's Club of Randallstown. She also belonged to the Piney Branch Golf and Country Club in Hampstead. An accomplished swimmer, she was also an instructor in an Ocean Pines women's swimming program.

Her husband of 45 years, John O. Seiland, an attorney, died in 1996.

Services were held Friday in Sykesville.

Survivors include a son, J. Craig Seiland of Pikesville; a daughter, Robin Lynn Trenner of Fulton; and two grandsons.
