John Carroll overcame a slight halftime deficit and made its free throws in the fourth quarter to clinch the fourth seed in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoffs with yesterday's 58-55 victory over Loyola.
The Patriots' Isaiah Philmore scored a game-high 18 points and made three of four free throws late in the fourth quarter.
The Dons' Matt Rum scored 18, but his last-second attempt to tie the game missed. Loyola (17-8) fell to the fifth seed with the loss.
John Carroll (19-11) will host Loyola at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The Patriots and Dons split the season series 1-1.
No. 1 Mount St. Joseph 67, Calvert Hall 56 -- Georgetown recruit Henry Sims scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and the Gaels defeated the Cardinals. John Graham paced Calvert Hall (15-16) with 21 points.
Championship schedule -- Cardinal Gibbons and Towson Catholic play at 7 p.m. tomorrow, with the winner advancing to the MIAA A Conference semifinals to play St. Frances at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Towson University. The winner of tomorrow's John Carroll-Loyola game will take on MIAA A Conference regular-season champion Mount St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Towson University. The A Conference championship will be played at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Towson University.
