Carole Husted Bade died at home Friday, February 1, 2008, after an eight year fight against lung cancer. Heinz Werner Bade, her husband of 31 years, children, and many friends continuously provided strength and support. Carole Husted was born April 1, 1940 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to Stephen and Dorothy McComick Husted. The Husted family moved to Baltimore in 1943 where Stephen worked as Director of Sales for the Bethlehem Steel Company during the Liberty Ship era. On June 22, 1944 at the tender age of 4, Carole participated in the launching of the Liberty Ship "S.S. Assistance" as the one to christen her, sending a spray of champagne everywhere. Fred Rasmussen wrote a wonderful article about the Liberty Ships, churned out of Bethlehem Steel, which was published by the Baltimore Sun in September of 2001. The article, along with a note from Fred Rasmussen is prominently displayed with the picture of the christening at Carole's house. A 1958 graduate of the Bryn Mawr School she was anticipating her 50th reunion this May. She attended Mt. Vernon Junior College before marrying William Hugh Bagby, Jr. in 1960. The couple settled in Lake Falls Village having three children before divorcing. Carole's many accomplishments included her father's shared love of horses. She became a very accomplished horsewoman. She enjoyed the challenge of each mount and participated in numerous hunts at Greenspring Hounds. Additionally, she loved tennis and was a talented player winning many tournaments. She appreciated and enjoyed her mother's passion for needlepoint. She was rarely without a project in progress. In the 1980's, Carole, who was always energetic and fun-loving started a women's boutique store called The Snooty Fox. She ran this business for a number of years. Carole's marriage to Heinz Bade brought a new love of sports cars and racing. She became an aficionado of Formula 1 Racing watching races on television and attending many races in the U.S. She loved sporting around town in her Targa Porsche. Her friends called her The Foxxy Lady. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, visiting museums, including car museums and the famous race tracks like the Nuerburgring where her husband worked on winning cars. She also enjoyed meeting Heinz' many friends there. Carole was an accomplished cook and loved to entertain. She took great care of her animals and was always making sure her birdfeeders were filled to the brim. A wonderful friend she took the time to truly listen, never forgetting a birthday or important occasion, and to the end of her life presented an 'upbeat', positive and encouraging smile. In addition to her husband, Carole is survived by her three children. William Hugh Bagby, III of Baltimore, MD, Richard Harwood Bagby of Timonium, MD and Caroline Bagby Grubb of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, McCormick and Alexandra of Charlotte and William of Timonium who were the lights of her life. A celebration of her life is planned for 11am, Saturday, March 1, 2008, at The Green Spring Valley Hunt Club.
