Annapolis man charged in DWI, speeding, assault on officer

The Baltimore Sun

An Annapolis man was charged with driving while intoxicated after being accused by police of going 80 mph on Forest Drive and later punching an officer. Robert Henry Zier, 59, of Sands Avenue was stopped about 9:45 p.m. Sunday after he was seen traveling at twice the 40 mph limit in a gray 2001 Porsche and crossing the center line, police said.

Zier was arrested and later fell and struck his head on the floor of his holding cell, according to police, who said that when officers went to his aid, he punched one of them in the arm. Zier was treated and released from Anne Arundel Medical Center for his head injury, which was not serious. He was charged with DWI, multiple traffic offenses and assault, and was being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in lieu of $175,000 bail.

Car is stolen on West Street, driven into parked vehicle

Someone stole a car left running and unattended Monday evening, then drove it into a parked vehicle, city police said.

The 35-year-old owner, a resident of Arundel on the Bay, said he ran inside the Texaco gas station at 245 West St. about 6:10 p.m. Monday and came outside to find his 1996 Mazda gone.

Minutes later, a caller reported that a car had just pulled into a residential driveway on nearby Steele Avenue and struck a parked car. The driver abandoned the car - the stolen Mazda - and fled on foot.
