A federal judge sentenced Jerrod Fenwick, 27, of Baltimore yesterday to more than nine years in prison for a robbery-related charge, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
According to the guilty plea entered before U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles Jr., Fenwick participated with two others in a September 2007 attempted robbery. But the intended robbery victim was fictional and the planning for the crime was monitored as part of a federal Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation, according to prosecutors.
A co-defendant, Donnell Mann, 26, of Baltimore pleaded guilty to conspiracy and firearms charges and is scheduled to be sentenced March 20. Charges against a third defendant are pending.

Rowhouse fire displaces residents
A fire in Southwest Baltimore's Mill Hill neighborhood damaged a three-story rowhouse early yesterday and displaced several occupants, said the city Fire Department.
Chief Kevin Cartwright, a spokesman, said there were no reports of injuries in the fire, which was reported shortly after 1 a.m. in the 2500 block of Ashton St. between Wilkens and Frederick avenues.
The fire was so intense at one point that flames were seen on all three floors, forcing firefighters to conduct an exterior attack. Occupants were taken to nearby St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church. Cartwright said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
City man indicted on child-sex charges
A federal grand jury has indicted Roy Edward Hoover Jr., 37, of Baltimore on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography.
The indictment in U.S. District Court in Baltimore was returned late Thursday and announced yesterday.
On May 30, 2004, Hoover coerced a minor female to engage in sexually explicit conduct, according to the two-count indictment announced yesterday. The indictment further charges that on Aug. 23 last year, when a search warrant was executed at his home, Hoover possessed child pornography.
He could receive a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison if convicted on both counts. No court date has been set, and Hoover is being held on related state charges, said federal prosecutors in Baltimore.
