O'Malley submits list of patronage appointees

In an annual ritual of patronage, Gov. Martin O'Malley submitted his "green bag" nominations to the state Senate yesterday, naming 165 people to state boards and commissions.

Among the appointments, which are subject to Senate confirmation, are his previously announced choices for the State Board of Education and new members for the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, the Maryland Stadium Authority, the state Port Commission, the Injured Workers' Insurance Fund and other unpaid policymaking and advisory bodies.

The appointees include

Norman R. Augustine, former president and chief executive officer of Lockheed Martin Corp., and the Rev. Frank M. Reid III, senior pastor of Bethel AME Church in Baltimore, to the university system Board of Regents.

James H. DeGraffenreidt Jr., Kate Walsh and Dr. Ivan C.A. Walks to the State Board of Education.

John Morton III, former CEO and president of Bank of America and other financial institutions, to the Maryland Stadium Authority

Many of those whose names were submitted were reappointed. Among them is Kevin O'Keefe, chairman of the Maryland Higher Education Commission, who was appointed by former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. O'Keefe is president of the Baltimore office of Weber Shandwick, a public relations firm.
