Daniel R. Greco, a retired project estimator and manager, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center. The Fallston resident was 83.

Mr. Greco was born in Wildwood, N.J., and was raised there and in Washington, where he graduated from McKinley High School.

He was a clerk at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving in Washington before enlisting in the Army Air Forces in 1943.

Trained as a B-29 engine mechanic and radar operator, Mr. Greco completed 23 missions in the Pacific during World War II.

"He returned without a scratch," said a son, John E. Greco of Fallston.

Mr. Greco was discharged with the rank of sergeant. His decorations included the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars.

He studied architectural engineering on the GI Bill and earned a degree from Catholic University of America in 1949.

From 1948 to 1962, he was a cost engineer at Carosella Construction Co. in Washington. Subsequently, he was a project estimator and manager at the General Services Administration, the Department of Agriculture and the World Bank. He retired in 1983.

Mr. Greco was a communicant of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 812 Reckord Road in Fallston, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Mr. Greco who enjoyed collecting stamps, gardening and dancing, also liked playing checkers and chess.

He was married for 27 years to the former Patricia A. McKenndy who died in 1982. His wife of 13 years, the former Dorothy Godek, died in 1996.

Also surviving are three other sons, Stephen D. Greco of Dallas, Ore., Thomas J. Greco of Columbia and Robert A. Greco of Davidsonville; a daughter, Diane Greco of Winchester, Va.; a sister, Clara Berlinsky of Mount Airy; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
