More unknowns for Orioles

Perhaps the Erik Bedard trade will work out for both the Orioles and the Mariners, but yesterday's announcement that Seattle has already decided that Bedard is its Opening Day starter shows the contrast between the Orioles and so many other clubs, including the one they just helped make an even more formidable contender in the American League West.

For the Mariners, their end of the trade provided a missing piece to their pitching puzzle. But for the Orioles - who received a promising young outfielder who has yet to prove himself at the major league level, a decent relief pitcher and three pitching prospects - their end of the deal has considerably more mystery built in.

In fact, with manager Dave Trembley trying to figure out if he even has a fourth or fifth starter, and with the shortstop position still up in the air, a whole lot about the Orioles remains a mystery.
