GEORGE SAKELLARIS SPENT 18 years working for Washington-area department stores and another few years as a personal shopper.
But if you ask his opinion, it isn't the clothes that make the man (or woman), it's the accessories.
"I've always loved accessories. That's the most exciting part of any wardrobe," he said.
Last fall, he opened his second Handbags and the City store in a former real estate office in Mount Washington Village. As with his first venture in Harbor East, the store is about 60 percent luxury handbags, 20 percent shoes and jewelry and 20 percent designer ready-to-wear clothing.
Sakellaris specializes in unusual and runway items from designers such as Michael Kors, Jill Stuart, Just Cavalier, L.A.M.B., Badgley Mischka and Longchamp.
Prices for bags range from about $195 to $500 -- somewhat less than the prices at his Harbor East location.
"I try to bring in ... what's not already here," Sakellaris said. "I bring fashion; I don't sell volume."
He usually has only one or two of each handbag. "Once it's gone, it's gone."
