CELEBRATING 600

Maryland coach Gary Williams was honored before the game for his 600th career victory. Williams, who last week became the seventh active Division I coach to reach that number with a win at Boston College, received a montage in a glass case from university chancellor Dan Mote. He also received congratulations from several former players via taped messages shown at halftime.

GETTING SOME SEPARATION

The victory helped Maryland reclaim sole possession of third place in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and, at 6-3, the Terps trail second-place North Carolina by only a half game. The defeat also did some damage to North Carolina State, which is 15-8 overall and 4-5 in the ACC. The Terps are a half game in front of Clemson, which plays at North Carolina tonight.

DOUBLE FIGURES

For the third time in four games, all five Maryland starters scored in double figures. While the career-high 30 points by James Gist stood out, as did the school-record-tying 15 assists by Greivis Vasquez, who also scored 13, Eric Hayes had 14 points, and Landon Milbourne and Bambale Osby each finished with 11.

COMING ATTRACTION

The Terps will enter Cameron Indoor Stadium on Wednesday night on a roll, but No. 2 Duke is red hot, too. The Blue Devils, who beat Boston College yesterday in Durham, N.C., have won 11 straight games since suffering their only loss of the season, against Pittsburgh in overtime. But Duke has lost at home to Maryland two of the past three seasons.
