Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will offer its course on bicycles - riding, maintenance and repair - from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning this week, at the Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville.
The course includes selecting a bike, riding fundamentals, and aspects of racing, touring, mountain and recreational riding.
Students will have hands-on experience with emergency fixes, overhaul and wheel-building. Tools are provided.
The cost is $75, and includes four two-hour sessions, materials and supplies, and the use of tools. Discounts on tools are extended to students for 30 days after the session.

Communication workshop
The Glenwood branch library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, will offer a workshop on styles of communication and how to share feelings effectively at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
The program is based on Gary Chapman's book, The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate, presented by John Robinson, life and relationship coach and president of Green Side Up Coaching.
"Cooking for Your Valentine," a program with Susan Belsinger, culinary educator and author of 10 cookbooks, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Belsinger will share recipes from her latest book, Not Just Desserts: Sweet Herbal Recipes.

Construction Halted -- Construction of the roundabout at Brighton Dam and Ten Oaks roads in Clarksville has been temporarily halted during the winter season. Construction is expected to resume in March, when temperatures rise. The project is expected to be completed by spring. Travel funds -- Mark and Patty Carroll, who own Town and Country Auto Repair in Dayton and are alumni of Glenelg High School, are offering Good Neighbor Savings Cards that include discount coupons for two oil changes and other services. The cards are being sold for $20 by Glenelg students. The proceeds will help the school's marching unit and drill team to attend out-of-state competitions.

Healthy hearts -- The Howard County Health Department, in partnership with the Howard County Office on Aging, will offer a free, eight-week cardiovascular disease prevention program from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, starting this week, at the Glenwood Senior Center.
