Veterans Elementary schedules registrations

Veterans Elementary School, 4355 Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, will accept kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 3-7.

Custodial parents, whether biological, adoptive or legal guardians, must enroll any child who is 5 years old by Sept. 1.

Parents must live in the school district in which the child will be enrolled, and should bring a parent picture ID; a signed original lease of deed; a current telephone bill (noncellular), current gas and electric bill, or current cable bill; the child's proof of birth; proof of custody, if applicable; and the child's current proof of immunization, unless a religious exemption is to be requested.

Parents invited to meet with principal

Parents are invited to join Carl Perkins, principal of Folly Quarter Middle School, for "Coffee & Conversation" from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the school, 13500 Triadelphia Road.

This month's topic is "Extending Learning at Home."

"Online Safety" will be the theme for the March 13 installment.

Library to screen films by students

The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, will hold a "Future Filmmakers: Original Film Festival" next month.

Films by high school students will be screened from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 4; films by college students will be screened from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 6.

The library's Teen Advisory Board, for ages 11-17, will meet from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 4.

The board advises the library on books, materials and programs that might best serve teens. Snacks will be served. Registration is not needed.

Around Town

Soccer program -- Registration is open for the Elkridge Youth Organization soccer program. Regular registration ends Feb. 29; late registration ends March 31. The co-ed, recreational program emphasizes instruction, fitness and fun. Players ages 5-17 are welcome. There are no tryouts for recreational leagues. College scholarships -- The Elkridge Adult Athletic Association, a 30-year-old community association, will accept college scholarship applications from high school seniors until April 19. Danny Tracy, 410-796-4389.

Teen board -- The county library's Elkridge branch, 6540 Washington Blvd., will hold a meeting of its Teen Advisory Board from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow. 410-313-5077. Registration is requested.
