The deadly, out-of-season tornadoes that raked the South this week were predicted six days in advance. During the hours from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued 1,000 tornado warnings for 11 states. Even so, thousands in northern Alabama were asleep when twisters struck at 3 a.m. They should have had NOAA weather radios. These inexpensive devices erupt with shrill whoops when warnings are issued for your area. Get one. Visit www. weather.gov/nwr.
