Fallston girls swim to another county title

The Fallston girls won a fourth consecutive team title in the Harford County swimming championships last night at Magnolia Middle School.

The Cougars finished with 289 points, beating C. Milton Wright (240) and Bel Air (225).

The boys will swim their round tonight at 5:45 at Magnolia Middle.

Emily Wagner was Fallston's only two-event winner. She captured the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.

Bel Air's Julie Loiland was the night's only other swimmer to win more than one event.

She captured both the 100 and 200 freestyle.

Girls basketball

No. 2 St. Frances 55, No. 15 McDonogh 42 -- The Panthers (22-3) used a 12-4 run in the third quarter to pull away from the hostEagles. Deanna Harmon scored six of her nine points in the period, as the Panthers extended their three-point halftime lead to 11 going into the fourth quarter. Kandice Green led St. Frances with 15 points. The senior center also added 13 rebounds, and Shatyra Hawkes chipped in 11 points in the win.

Boys basketball

No. 6 Mount Carmel 61, St. Paul's 46 -- Troy Franklin scored a game-high 23 points to power the visiting Cougars (22-3) past the Crusaders. Mount Carmel led 15-12 after the first quarter and outscored St. Paul's 22-14 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
