The Ravens added two coaches to John Harbaugh's staff yesterday, hiring Hue Jackson as the quarterbacks coach and Andy Moeller as an assistant offensive line coach.
Jackson, who was the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator this past season, was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins under then-head coach Steve Spurrier in 2003 and the wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2004 through 2006.
"One of the main attributes we're looking for in assembling this staff is great communication. Hue Jackson has that," Harbaugh said in a written statement released by the team. "He's known for getting the players' attention and taking them to a higher place to play."
Jackson had interviewed with the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams for their vacant offensive coordinator positions. In his new role, Jackson will work closely with Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.
"Coach Harbaugh's attention to detail, his fiery style and his leadership make him someone you love to follow into battle," Jackson said in the same statement. "Coach Cameron has put together many great offenses, and working with him gives me more of an opportunity to grow as a football coach."
Moeller, the son of former Michigan coach Gary Moeller, spent the previous six seasons as offensive line coach at the University of Michigan. He will aid John Matsko, who was hired as the offensive line coach last week.
"His production with the offensive line at Michigan speaks for itself," Harbaugh said.
In other news, former Ravens running backs coach Tony Nathan was hired by the San Francisco 49ers in the same capacity.
