GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The pressure was supposed to be on the New York Giants to upset the New England Patriots.

Instead, the Giants put all the pressure on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

In 17 first-half drop backs last night, Brady was sacked three times and knocked down on three other occasions. In the second half, the Giants sacked him two more times.

That's a drastic difference for Brady in the playoffs. In his previous three postseason games, he had been sacked only three times on 64 drop backs.

Defensive end Justin Tuck harassed Brady throughout the first half. He had two sacks and forced a fumble to end a New England drive late in the second quarter.

Records broken

It didn't take long for the first Super Bowl records to be set.

The Giants ran the most plays in any opening drive in Super Bowl history when they went 63 yards on 16 plays. They also set the mark for most time consumed on a drive, holding the ball for 9:59.

The marathon drive ended in a 32-yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes. The Patriots didn't take their first offensive snap until there was 4:52 left in the first quarter.

Slow starters

New England continued an interesting Super Bowl tradition by not scoring until the first play of the second quarter.

The Patriots did not score in the first quarter of their previous three winning Super Bowl trips. The only times the Patriots scored in the opening period were in the 1986 and 1997 Super Bowls, which they lost.

In last night's Super Bowl, the Patriots had first-and-goal at the 1-yard line in the final minute of the first quarter but Laurence Maroney was stopped for no gain. He then scored three seconds into the second quarter to put the Patriots ahead 7-3.

Manning picked

Eli Manning threw his first interception of the postseason, but it wasn't costly.

His hard throw to Steve Smith -- which should have been caught inside the Patriots' 10 -- bounced off Smith's hands and into the arms of Ellis Hobbs.

But the Patriots went three-and-out after the turnover.

Manning had thrown 96 passes during the playoffs without throwing an interception.

Ex-Raven alert

Ex-Raven Adalius Thomas made his presence felt in the second quarter for the Patriots.

He came from the blind side to sack Manning and force a fumble. The ball rolled to the left side, where running back Ahmad Bradshaw tried to push it forward in an attempt to convert the third down.

But Bradshaw was flagged for an "illegal bat," a 10-yard penalty.

Thomas finished with two sacks.

Ticket forgery arrests

Nine people were arrested in Scottsdale on suspicion of selling forged Super Bowl tickets for thousands of dollars.
