Man gets life in killing of 2 teens

A Baltimore man has been sentenced to life in prison in the fatal shootings of two teenagers outside a Sunoco station in 2006, prosecutors said.

Circuit Judge Charles G. Bernstein sentenced Abdul Kareem Alvez-el, 23, of the 500 block of Richwood Road on Friday to three consecutive life sentences, followed by three consecutive 20-year sentences - the maximum allowed by law - on two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and handgun charges, according to the Baltimore state's attorney.

Alvez-el was convicted last year of shooting Ricky Medley, 19, and Martrell Brown, 16, as they rode in Medley's car in the 500 block of E. Cold Spring Lane about 9:45 p.m. Feb. 2, 2006. Medley, who was driving the vehicle, was shot in the torso. He died later that night at Good Samaritan Hospital. Brown, a passenger, was shot in the head and died the next day at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Quinton White, 17, another passenger in the moving vehicle, reached the steering wheel from the back seat and crashed the car into a wall, suffering a broken arm.
