Biscotti means twice cooked in Italian. These cookies are extra crunchy, sturdy enough to withstand being dipped in a cup of coffee or, if you are so inclined, a glass of wine.
While these twice-baked cookies come with all kinds of toppings and adds-ons, I go for the basic model: an almond biscotti, not too sweet, with good bite. I found several in the Baltimore area.

Loaded with almonds, and slightly sweeter than the others, this is a high-end - $7.45 for a half-pound of six biscotti - indulgence, made at the bakery's Baltimore Street facility.
