Groups to sponsor free parents program on teen issues

HC DrugFree and the Atholton PTSA will sponsor a free program for parents, "What Is Your Teen Thinking?" from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the media center at Atholton High School in Columbia.

The program, for parents only, will address questions such as "How do teens think?" and "Why do they do what they do?"

Mark Donovan, an adolescent therapist with Integrative Counseling, will share his view of why teens do what they do as it affects their grades, use of alcohol and other drugs, and other risky behaviors.

Meanwhile, HC DrugFree's annual Teen Job & Volunteer Fair will be held this year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 8.

HC DrugFree, a local nonprofit, works to empower the community to raise drug-free teens.

County state's attorney position to be re-advertised

The chairperson of the Committee of Sitting Judges of the Howard County Circuit court has announced that the position of Howard County state's attorney will be re-advertised.

The committee said that the Christmas and New Year's holidays may have shortened the time for those who may be interested in submitting an application. Also, the advertisement did not make it clear that the names of all applicants for the position would be made public.

The deadline for applications has been extended to Feb. 15. The position will be re-advertised to include this information.

The position became available when Timothy J. McCrone, the former state's attorney, was appointed a Howard Circuit Court judge.

Board of Education candidate forums to be rebroadcast

A forum for candidates for the Board of Education, held Jan. 8 by the League of Women Voters of Howard County and the PTA Council of Howard County, will be rebroadcast on channels 42 and 72 at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 5 and 9; and at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 11.

A forum for candidates running in the primary election for Congress in the 3rd and 7th districts, held Jan. 10, will be rebroadcast on Gtv channels 70 and 44 at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 29-31 and 8 p.m. Jan. 30 and 12:30 p.m. Feb. 1-11; evening broadcasts are scheduled at 9 Feb. 1 and 8 and 10 Feb. 2, 3, 9 and 10.Information: Barbara Russell, 410-730-4024.
