City residents can comment on tax committee report

The Baltimore Sun

City residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on a task force report on property taxes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the auditorium at Polytechnic Institute.

The Blue Ribbon Committee on Taxes and Fees, which was created by Mayor Sheila Dixon last year, will present its report and hear public testimony. The report is available online at www.balti php.

To reduce the property tax rate and increase the base of taxable property, the task force offered more than a dozen recommendations, including raising the 4 percent Homestead Tax Credit cap on assessments, increasing the income tax rate and using new commercial transfer tax revenue to offset property taxes.

The school is at Falls Road and Cold Spring Lane; residents wishing to speak should arrive by 6:30 p.m. to register.

A separate hearing on a City Council task force on childhood obesity will also meet today. That hearing will take place at 5 p.m. in City Hall. A report on that topic is available online at www.balti
