Child care fair planned for Saturday

The Howard County "Children on Board" Child Care & Preschool Information Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville.

Information will be available on child care centers, preschools, summer camps, family child care, programs for school-aged children, infants programs, play groups, cooperative nursery schools and other resources.

Admission is free.

Students urged to register to vote

Students who are 17 years old and will be 18 on or before the general election Nov. 4 are eligible to register to vote in the presidential primary Feb. 12.

Students and all unregistered voters must complete a voter registration form and mail or take it to the Howard County board of Elections (8900 Columbia 100 Parkway, Columbia) by Jan. 22. Information: 410-313-5820.

Education board, STTAR to meet

The Howard County Board of Education will meet with STTAR (Specialized Trauma Treatment and Recovery) Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby conference room at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City. Information: 410-313-6682.

HCC is accepting class registration

Howard Community College is accepting student registration for its spring 2008 credit session.

The spring credit semester begins Jan. 26 for weekend classes and Jan. 28 for weekday classes.

Phone and Web site registration are available for newly admitted and previously enrolled credit students using their college identification and password. In-person registration is available at the college during normal business hours.

College is scheduling orientation classes

Howard Community College will offer new-student orientation sessions from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 22 and 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 24.

First-time HCC students are encouraged and expected to attend; parents are welcome to attend a parent session that will be held during their child's orientation program.

The sessions include refreshments, information packets and planned activities, including interactive workshops, campus tours and prizes.

HCC cookbook is on sale for $15

A cookbook featuring favorite recipes from students, staff members and faculty at Howard Community College is on sale at the HCC Bookstore in the Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall.

Now You're Cooking, HCC! contains more than 200 recipes from around the world. The book costs $15; proceeds will benefit the HCC Educational Foundation's scholarship fund for international education.

Online registration for Howard Community College's winter noncredit courses is continuing.

Textbooks and textbook-related materials recommended for the first time for use in county public schools will be on display in the lobby of the Department of Education through tomorrow.
