Khadija Mitchell scored 20 points and Brynne Matthews grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds as visiting Mercy upset No. 13 Archbishop Spalding, 46-37, last night in girls basketball.
After a slow start, the Magic gained the lead late in the first quarter and never looked back, leading by five at the half.
The Cavaliers cut the lead to three points in the second half before the Magic used its depth to pull away, with seven players scoring in the third quarter.
Janay Brinkley led Spalding with 18 points.
No. 14 Fallston 41, Rising Sun 23 -- Jess Harlee had 14 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and five assists for the victorious Cougars (10-1).
Howard 54, Mount de Sales 50 -- Nyree Williams had 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the visiting Lions (3-6) past the Sailors (8-5). The junior center also had seven steals and six blocks. Julia Cocozza added 10 points in the win. Howard was up by 15 in the second half before the Sailors came back behind a slew of three-pointers to close to within 52-50 before suffering back-to-back turnovers in the final minute.
No. 10 Douglass 68, Atholton 63 -- Omar Strong had 19 points to lead a trio of players in double figures as the Ducks (6-3) defeated the visiting Raiders. The senior led the team in scoring and added five assists and three steals in the win. Brandon Simms had 17 points and Justin Berry added 15 for Douglass.
Gilman 74, Annapolis Area Christian 73 -- Jeff Irwin and Greg McBride scored 21 points each as the Greyhounds (6-8) defeated the Eagles. Gilman lead 36-35 at halftime of a game that was tight throughout.
