Around the house
For those who did a lot of cooking throughout the holidays, it's a good time to clean out the fridge. Consolidate bottles of condiments and throw out anything that is no longer fresh and usable. Also, activate the self-cleaning feature on the oven or clean the inside with a gentle all-purpose cleanser and cloth.
Organize leftover gift wrapping supplies and store them to use for next year.
Have carpets cleaned or shampooed to prevent stains from holiday parties or beverage spills from becoming permanent.
Have the Christmas tree mulched.
In the yard
Start taking down holiday lights and decorations, paying careful attention to repair broken hooks and frayed wires and replace cracked light bulbs. While you're at it, make sure the bulbs of permanent outdoor light fixtures are intact.
In case of inclement weather, make sure to have a shovel and plenty of ice melter. This will prevent rushing to the store at the last minute.
