Loyola upsets St. Frances

The Baltimore Sun

Unranked Loyola denied St. Frances coach William Wells his 500th career victory, as the host Dons upset the second-ranked Panthers, 60-46, last night.

Matt Rum scored 19 points to lead Loyola (9-0), which jumped out to a 34-16 halftime lead in a game of huge momentum swings.

St. Frances (11-5) rallied to tie it with approximately four minutes left, but a three-point play by James Davenport (11 points) sparked a 9-0 run by the Dons, who scored 16 of the game's final 18 points.

"We could've folded once it got to 44-all," Loyola coach Josh Davalli said. "But we took it to another level. We kept our poise and made some shots there."

Sal Schittino added 14 points for the Dons.

Maryland recruit Sean Mosley scored a game-high 21 points for St. Frances, which shot just 33 percent from the field.
