Murphy, DeSanti join arts festival

Leigh Murphy has been hired as fundraising coordinator for the Columbia Festival of the Arts.

She will be responsible for coordinating corporate sponsor and individual donor fundraising for the 2008 season, which is to be held June 13-28.

Murphy was director of special events for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Metropolitan D.C. Chapter, and was special events coordinator for the Montgomery County Humane Society in Rockville. She was also director of humane education and public relations/volunteer coordinator for the Montgomery County Humane Society.

Vince DeSanti has been hired as the festival's part-time volunteer coordinator.

He has been a volunteer for the Columbia Festival of the Arts for five years. In his new role, he will be responsible for recruiting and placing more than 200 volunteers for the 16-day festival, and for the festival's year-round support needs.

Retired from the federal government in 1993, DeSanti is a part-time faculty member at Howard Community College's Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development and is a job coach and trainer at the Howard County Detention Center and the Howard County Department of Social Services.

HC DrugFree board appoints Jacobs

Kyri L. Jacobs, executive vice president and shareholder in Bonnie Heneson Communications, has been appointed to the board of directors of HC DrugFree.

She will serve a two-year term as a director and join the organization's newsletter and public relations committee.

Jacobs joined the organization in 1992 and was its vice president for nine years. In her current position, she provides strategic counsel and leads campaigns for major health-care clients, including Howard County General Hospital, Howard Hospital Foundation and Doctors Community Hospital.
