National Treasure: Book of Secrets
Rating -- PG
What it's about -- The National Treasure team seeks clues from a Civil War conspiracy that might point to a legendary lost city of gold.
The Kid Attractor Factor -- All of the above.
Good lessons/bad lessons -- History is its own reward, but sometimes knowing your history can make you rich.
Violence -- Shootouts, car chases, the threat of drowning.
Language -- Disney clean.
Sex -- None.
Drugs -- The perils of tequila are discussed.
Parents' advisory -- If your kids are old enough to enjoy action and sit still for a two-hour action film about history, treasure and Civil War grudges, get your place in line now.
The Kite Runner
Rating -- PG-13
What it's about -- A boy lets his young friend down in Afghanistan only to try to make amends as an adult, decades later.
The Kid Attractor Factor -- A rich portrait of a childhood filled with kite flying, national trauma and personal tragedy.
Good lessons/bad lessons -- It's never too late to make up for the failings of our past.
Violence -- Yes, against children, some of it sexual in nature. Along with a graphic beating.
Language -- Profanity, not a lot of it.
Sex -- A rape.
Drugs -- None.
Parents' advisory -- The rating is a stretch, here, with the MPAA making allowances it never would with an American-set movie. It's quite violent and too serious for middle schoolers. Best for 15 years and older.
