A 21-year-old gang member from Owings Mills pleaded guilty yesterday to second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in the Jan. 16, 2006, shooting death of a man at a restaurant on South Newkirk Street, according to the Baltimore state's attorney's office.
William Salmeron was sentenced to 25 years in prison, prosecutors said. He is serving a 26-year sentence for murder in North Carolina and faces murder charges in a double killing in Baltimore County in January 2006.
During yesterday's hearing in Baltimore Circuit Court, Salmeron admitted being with a group of people that tried to rob Restaurante La Bahia in the 400 block of S. Newkirk St. in Southeast Baltimore. The owner, Jose Mendoza, 42, was shot and killed when he tried to grab the gun, prosecutors said.
In the Baltimore County case, Salmeron - who prosecutors say is a member of the MS-13 gang - is accused in the stabbing deaths of two men whose bodies were found near Arbutus Middle School, prosecutors said.
