Perry Hall students hold protest for coaches

The Baltimore Sun

A group of approximately 100 Perry Hall students, many of them football players, staged a demonstration in front of the school yesterday to protest the potential removal of the football team's assistant coaches.

The demonstration was sparked by a meeting the coaches had with principal Brian G. Gonzalez and athletic director Kathy Graybeal.

Gonzalez said he told the coaches at the meeting that the school plans to begin its search for a new head coach, who would be allowed to select his own staff. As a result, the school would be withholding the renewal of their contracts.

"They said that the new coach would select his own staff and that none of our jobs were safe," Gators junior varsity coach Bobby Munroe said.

Bob Hruz was promoted from assistant to interim head coach in October after previous head coach Nick Arminio was relieved of his duties.

Arminio, who has said he was never given a reason for his dismissal, was let go after reports surfaced about a charge of criminal sexual contact when he was a gym teacher and coach at Toms River (N.J.) High School East.
