Let's hand it to 'Avenue Q': Its heady puppets earn laughs

The Baltimore Sun

It's hard not to be charmed by a show that warns squeamish theatergoers that it features "full puppet nudity."

But what makes the Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q special isn't the floppy dummies, though they are oddly beguiling. Nor is it the skill with which the actors manipulate the puppets during the national tour, which is running at the Hippodrome Theatre for two weeks.

If you go Avenue Q runs at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, 12 N. Eutaw St., through Dec. 23. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sundays. $25-$70. france-merrickpac.com or 410-547-7328.
