State football championships won by county schools. Wilde Lake has captured five titles, with Howard (1974) and Oakland Mills (1998) winning the other two.


Shutouts recorded by the No. 1 River Hill football team, which routed Patuxent, 35-0, to win the Class 2A South regional title Friday night. The Hawks (12-0) have yielded but 14 points this season (eight against Wilde Lake and six against Marriotts Ridge during the regular season) while scoring 509 points. It was the third straight regional title for the Hawks, who opened the playoffs with a 34-0 win over McDonogh.


Combined yards of offense the Wilde Lake football team has compiled in playoff wins over Howard and North Harford to capture the Class 3A East regional title. After racking up 359 yards in a semifinal win over Howard, the Wildecats amassed 432 yards in beating North Harford, 26-6, in Friday night's title game. Running back Jarrel Epps accounted for 266 yards and four touchdowns in Friday's win.
