3-pointer sinks UMBC as late rally falls short

Rashauna Hobbs made a three-pointer with 1:19 left to hold off a late rally by the visiting UMBC women's basketball team as the Retrievers fell to George Mason, 58-57, last night.

The Retrievers (1-4) trailed by one at the half before taking a 52-51 lead with 2:17 left on Chantay Frazier's layup. The Patriots (2-2) scored five in a row in the final minute to seal the win.

The Patriots' Lateisha Wade led all scorers with 19 points. Carlee Cassidy had 17 for UMBC.

George Mason has a two-game winning streak, and the Retrievers have a three-game losing streak.

Morgan State 85, North Carolina Central 40 -- The host Bears (2-2) - led by Britney Griffin with 13 points - outscored the Eagles 50-19 in the second half. Morgan State shot 67.7 percent from the field to North Carolina Central's 20 percent. Shanise Blanks led the Eagles (0-6) with 11 points. Corin Adams and Danielle Scott added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Morgan State.
