A new chef in Cinghiale's kitchen

The Baltimore Sun

Barely two months after it opened, Cinghiale, the newest Tony Foreman-Cindy Wolf project in Harbor East, has a new chef. Stefano Frigerio, from the well-regarded Maestro in McLean, Va., is gone, replaced by Julian Marucci, who was part of the opening team and before that worked at Charleston under Wolf.

When I talked to Frigerio about why he had left, he said for "family reasons." He has two children, one 8 and one 18 months old. With 12-hour workdays and an hour-and-a-half commute, he wasn't seeing much of them or his wife. He wasn't able to tell me where he'll be working next, but it won't be in Baltimore because of a noncompete agreement.

BILLIARDS AND MORE --Bedrock, known for its lounge, sports bar and pool hall, is offering something more: serious, if casual, food. Its just-opened Sidecar Grill (405 W. Baltimore St., 410-685-7665) specializes in stone-hearth gourmet pizza, fancy salads, sliders and sandwiches such as a classic BLT made with applewood-smoked bacon, a crab cake and a portobello-mushroom sandwich.

The clean-lined, contemporary dining room seats about 60.

ON THE MOVE --Don't be surprised if your favorite bagel shop isn't where you left it. Goldberg's New York Bagels moved up the street this month to 1498 Reisterstown Road. Goldberg's is now twice the size, has two dining rooms and is serving items such as waffles, pancakes and home fries that weren't on the old menu. There's also a new salad bar for the lunch crowd.

ECLECTIC CREPES --When Susan Singer, owner of Eclectic Elements, lost the general manager of the popular creperie attached to her Fells Point furniture store this fall, she simply closed it. "She was with me from the beginning," Singer said. "It was difficult to continue." The creperie may not be closed for good, though. She said she's considering reopening for the holidays.
