Margaret H. Brant, a longtime volunteer at Greater Baltimore Medical Center and former Glen Arm resident, died Thursday of complications from a broken leg at the Broadmead retirement community in Cockeysville. She was 91.

She was born Margaret Hamilton McInnes in Glasgow, Scotland, and as a child settled in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y., with her family. She was a graduate of New York City public schools.

During the 1930s, she began working as a secretary in the Lower Manhattan office of Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Marine Division, where she met her future husband, Albert D. Brant, an accountant. They married in 1948.

They were living in Whippany, N.J., when Mr. Brant was transferred to the company's marine division in Baltimore in 1962. He died in 2004.

Mrs. Brant volunteered for 40 years at the Towson hospital, until 2002.

"She worked on the recovery desk, keeping families informed on the progress of their loved ones," said Henrietta Wilson, who worked with Mrs. Brant and retired as a nursing technician in 2004.

"She was one of our original volunteers when we moved to Towson from Baltimore Street in 1965. She got along so well with everybody and was well-loved," Mrs. Wilson said. "She served long and she served well."

She also was an active member, with her husband, of Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church, and the Chestnuts, a church social group.

She was a world traveler and an avid collector of thimbles and spoons.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at her church, 3701 Sweet Air Road, Phoenix.

Surviving are a son, David I. Brant of Malvern, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
