Restaurant review

The Baltimore Sun

This fall, while restaurateur Spike Gjerde of Spike & Charlie's fame was in the process of developing his high-profile farm-to-table restaurant, Woodberry Kitchen, brother Charlie quietly opened his own place, a bar-restaurant in Fells Point called Alexander's Tavern.

This was to be a project completely unlike the brothers' former endeavors -- Spike & Charlie's, the Atlantic, jr. and Joy America, all fine-dining restaurants to some degree or other (jr. less so than the others). Instead, Charlie Gjerde, with partner Carrie Podles, decided on a casual place that would be family-oriented, with bar food, a kids' menu, games and "a ton of specials."
