Teams with 10-0 records in the 64-team field (divided among four classifications) for the state football tournament. No. 4 Arundel is one of them. The Wildcats became the 14th Anne Arundel team with at least a nine-game schedule to go unbeaten in regular season when they won 26-7 at South River on Friday.
Touchdown catches this season by Broadneck's J.J. Hicks, who has tied North County's Corey Wright (1996) for the county record. Wright's 15 touchdowns also was a state record that he shared with two other receivers until this season. Linganore's C.J. Thomas has 17 this season, and the Frederick team, like Broadneck, is in the playoffs.
Touchdown passes by Arundel's Nick Elko, bringing him within two of the state record for touchdowns in a season held by North County's Mike Evans (1996) and John Carroll's Al Neville (1968). Arundel coach Chuck Markiewicz coached Evans at North County.
