When a quarterback says that it's time to go with his replacement, there isn't anything else to say. Steve McNair is ineffective, plain and simple. Kyle Boller isn't the answer either.
Offensive line: D
The Bengals had two sacks and hurried McNair three other times. McNair got hit a lot because the Ravens couldn't handle the pressure up front. Right tackle Adam Terry is still showing rust from the layoff.
Running backs: C
Willis McGahee rushes 17 times for 60 yards, but this should have been a 25- to 35-carry game for McGahee against the soft Bengals. McGahee ran tough inside but had no acceleration on the stretch plays.
The Ravens could bottle some of Derrick Mason's toughness and pass it around. Mason had four catches for 29 yards, but fellow wide-out Mark Clayton had eight for 107. The Ravens dropped a lot of passes.
Defensive line: B+
Defensive tackles Haloti Ngata and Kelly Gregg controlled the Bengals' running game, and each had seven tackles. End Trevor Pryce was a factor with five and put pressure on the quarterback.
Middle linebacker Ray Lewis led the team with 10 tackles, but at times he got tired like the rest of the defense because the unit was out there too long. Outside linebackers Jarret Johnson and Terrell Suggs each had strong games with a combined 15 tackles.
This was a group that was long on heart but short on talent. This group was down two starters because of injuries, and it showed. But safeties Dawan Landry and Ed Reed played as well as possible, providing support over the top. Special teams: C
Punter Sam Koch averaged only 36.7 yards on three punts but did hit on two inside the 2. Returner Cory Ross was effective, but not spectacular. The Ravens fumbled a kickoff late in the game, which led to another Bengals field goal.
The defense played well considering the turnovers the Ravens had, and the group was also without two starting cornerbacks. Offensively, the Ravens couldn't get anything going. There is no rhythm with the group. Billick should have gone with Boller earlier, and this team lacks discipline.
