Helen H. Stauffer, a retired registered nurse and former Marriottsville resident, died of pneumonia Thursday at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. She was 72.

Helen Hymiller was born and raised in Eldersburg. She was a 1952 graduate of Sykesville High School and earned a nursing degree from the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

Mrs. Stauffer was a nursing supervisor for 32 years at Springfield State Hospital in Sykesville before retiring in 1990.

She enjoyed spending time at a second home in Fenwick Island, Del., and going deep-water fishing aboard charter boats. She collected wooden and nautical figures.

Mrs. Stauffer, who moved to Selbyville, Del., in 1999, liked playing bingo and visiting casinos.

Her husband of 39 years, William Edward Stauffer, a manager with Dairymen Inc., died in 1995.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Eldersburg.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Liberty Road in Winfield.

Surviving are two daughters, Terri Linn Stauffer of Westminster and Carol A. Coufal of Eldersburg; three brothers, Nathan Hymiller and George Hymiller, both of Sykesville, and Jerry Hymiller of Woodbine; and five grandchildren.
