CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK: The Enoch Pratt Free Library is celebrating Children's Book Week this week with a long list of events and programs for the whole family. The Pratt will have unique celebrations, including storytelling, parties, author and illustrator appearances, and other book-related events. Most programs will wrap around the library's featured book this year, Laura Vaccaro Seeger's Dog and Bear, winner of the Horn Book Award. Seeger will be making special appearances at several Pratt libraries. For more information, go to prattlibrary.org.
PRIZE-WINNING HISTORIAN: Pulitzer Prize winning author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin was due to be honored last night with the Enoch Pratt Free Library's Lifetime Literary Achievement Award at the 11th annual Enoch Pratt Society Awards Dinner. The award recognizes an American writer whose body of work has contributed significantly to American literature and has enriched the lives of readers. Goodwin is the author of several books, including Lyndon Johnson & the American Dream, The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys and Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.
The Enoch Pratt Society will also be honoring the Roland Park Library Initiative with the Distinguished Benefactor Award. This community group is being recognized for its commitment to the expansion and renovation of the Roland Park Branch. The branch is scheduled to reopen in December.
