Diversity speaker is guest at college
Cecil College will present a Speakers Series on "The Changing Face of Diversity in the 21st Century" from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Milburn Stone Theatre on the North East campus.
The series features prominent personalities with differing approaches to contemporary diversity issues, an audience discussion and book signing.
Gayle Brandeis from Irvine, Calif., will present "Art and Activism: Researching, Creating and Supporting the Other."
A novelist and social activist, Brandeis is a recipient of the Bellwether Prize for Fiction in support of literature of social change for The Book of Dead Birds. She will speak on art and activism and the challenges of researching and writing about diverse communities as an outsider.
A reception for Brandeis and photographer Linda Wilson's "Sense of Self" exhibit will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. in the gallery of the Milburn Stone Theatre.

College to advise potential students
Cecil College will hold a free College Information and Career Advising Session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Ave.
Advisers from the college's credit and noncredit programs will talk to prospective students about training programs, workplace readiness classes, lifelong learning resources and financial aid.

HCC board to hold meeting Tuesday
The board of trustees of Harford Community College will meet in open session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Chesapeake Center Board Room.

Highlands School to hold open house
The Highlands School will hold an open house from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday for parents and prospective students entering grades K-8.
The Highlands School serves children with learning differences. The open house will include a slide presentation, question-and-answer period, and tour.

Friends School sets admissions tests
Harford Friends School will hold admissions testing from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday for grade 1 and grades 6 to 8 for, and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday for grades 2 to 5. Additional tests will be offered Jan. 19 and March 15. Appointments are required for testing.

Literacy program seeks volunteers
The Literacy Education Department of Harford Community College is seeking volunteers to assist instructors for Adult Basic Education (ABE) math classes and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes at locations around the county.
