Center in quest for excellence
The staff at Baltimore Washington Medical Center has begun "Quest for Excellence," a campuswide initiative aimed at optimizing patients' experience.
New standards for employees include attitude, appearance, accountability, communication, courtesy, privacy, safety and teamwork.
Some of the significant changes under Quest include:
Valet parking for all patients and guests.
Peer Recognition in Developing Excellence (PRIDE), a new employee recognition program.
Staff members greet and escort patients and visitors.
Standards of excellence are used to select job candidates.
Since implementing Quest, inpatient satisfaction scores have increased. The hospital scored 4.02 out of 5, - just above the national average of 4.01, on the Jackson Organization's October-December 2006 survey. That jumped to 4.17 in the January-March survey and to 4.17 in the April-June survey, putting the hospital in the top 25 percent of hospitals nationwide for inpatient satisfaction.
