Facing a taxing special session

The Baltimore Sun

Last week, Gov. Martin O'Malley called legislators back to the State House for a special session.

Lawmakers are scrutinizing legislation proposed by the governor that would raise corporate and sales taxes while adjusting personal income taxes. Also big on the agenda is putting forth a November 2008 referendum on legalizing slots.

O'Malley is seeking to close a $1.7 billion tax gap.
