Edgewood @ North Harford

WHEN -- Friday, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- Edgewood isn't as strong as it has been in past seasons, but the Rams always give North Harford trouble. The Hawks will need this game to try to secure a top spot in the Class 3A regional playoffs. North Harford QB Dan Griffin controls the offense, but the question is whether the North Harford defense has the speed to shut down the Edgewood offense. North Harford also must stay away from the turnovers that hampered them in last year's loss to Edgewood.

State championships

WHEN -- Saturday, 9 a.m.

WHERE -- Hereford High

OUTLOOK -- Can Sara Bailey and the top-ranked C. Milton Wright girls get past the powerful Montgomery County schools to win the always-tough Class 4A state title? Coach Donnie Mickey's team has been solid all season, turning in a near-perfect performance to rout the field in the recent Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship meet. Pete Houlihan and the No. 5 Mustangs boys face the same tough task. The No. 6 Bel Air boys and No. 7 Bel Air girls have run well this season, but they'll also face a tough field on a difficult course

Private school state Championships

WHEN -- Saturday, 1:30

WHERE -- Glenelg Country

OUTLOOK -- The John Carroll girls have a shot to do well in this event. Injuries have hurt the Patriots, who finished second in last week's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship race. The Patriots' Erika Stasakova won the A Conference race, while Elizabeth Tauber took third and Nicole Clarke was 11th. They'll need everyone to run their best against a difficult field.
