An 82-year old man died in a house fire yesterday afternoon in Parkville, fire officials said.

The fire in the 8700 block of Oakleigh Road was reported about 4 p.m., said Elise Armacost, a county Fire Department spokeswoman.

A woman who had been in the home was able to escape the fire, Armacost said. But the woman was unable to help William Wallace Brown Jr., who apparently had mobility problems, Armacost said.

Brown was dead when firefighters arrived, six minutes after the call came in, Armacost said.

Investigators were investigating the cause of the fire, she said.
