Armed robbery try -- Police were seeking at least five young males who attempted to rob Rite Aid Pharmacy in the 2100 block of W. Patapsco Ave. Wednesday night, but fled when a security officer entered the store. Police said the suspects were in the process of robbing the store about 9 p.m. when Officer Rudon Smith, 54, an employee of Wackenhut Security, entered the store on a routine business check. During a struggle with the officer, one of the youths attempted to take his service weapon, but Smith fought him off and all five fled.

Southeastern

Theft -- A laptop computer, its carrying bag and a brief case containing business papers were stolen Thursday from a 2004 Nissan Maxima parked in the 600 block of S. Ann St. The brief case was recovered.

Baltimore County

Cockesville

Armed robbery -- Police were seeking a man wearing a camouflage mask who robbed Walley's Country Store in the 19200 block of Middletown Road Thursday night of an undisclosed sum of money. During the robbery, the man fired a shot from a rifle into the ceiling. There were no injuries.
