A man arrested Wednesday night in a Bolton Hill apartment building a few hours after police say he ran down two plainclothes city detectives in Waverly has been charged with multiple offenses in the incident, including two counts of attempted murder and narcotic violations, authorities said.

Francis Stephen Lee, 37, of the 700 block of Gorsuch Ave., was arrested Wednesday after Detectives Steven M. Mahan, 37, and Gus S. Passamichalis, 42, were run down by a sport utility vehicle in the 900 block of E. 33rd St., in front of a YMCA, as they neared the vehicle during a drug investigation.

Police said that the driver sped off and abandoned the vehicle a few blocks from the scene.

Both detectives were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where Mahan had surgery for multiple leg injuries.

The other detective was treated for an ankle injury and released.

Five hours after the officers were run down, police received information that the driver was in an apartment at the eight-story Cecil Apartments in the 1100 block of Eutaw Place.

SWAT team officers arrested Lee without incident.

In the Bolton Hill apartment, police found more than $130,000 and a quantity of cocaine and marijuana, said Deputy Police Commissioner Anthony Barksdale.

Lee, who has been charged with more than a dozen offenses in Wednesday's incident, was being held at Central Booking and Intake Center without bail on the attempted murder charges and $100,000 bond on the drug charges, said Margaret Burns, a spokeswoman for the city state's attorney's office.
